Pantsir-S1 and Jigit missile systems will be shipped to Iraq as a response to Baghdad's request for protection from the Islamic State, Interfax reports.
Iraqi Defense Minister Saadoun ad-Dulaimi visited Moscow in July and signed a contract worth over $1 billion, purchasing a large shipment of artillery and explosives.
Several Su-25 assault jets were sent to Iraq in June. Iraq ordered Mi-28E and Mi-35 helicopters, Pantsir-S1 systems for $2 billion in 2013. Russian Defense Minister Army General Sergey Shoygu said at a meeting with al-Dulaimi that a legal basis for military and technical cooperation of the two countries will be formed.
