2015 has been declared the Gardening Year in Dagestan, according to Dagestani Leader Ramazan Abdulatipov, Yuga.ru reports.Abdulatipov said that the republic needed to revive gardening and grape-growing that had declined in the 1990s. He urged all Dagestanis in highland areas to plant new gardens or reconstruct the old ones.Abdulatipov mentioned the villages of Berikey, Salik, Gejukh and Mamedkala in the Derbentsky District, Darvag in the Tabasaransky District, where living standards had improved after planting 2,000 hectares of vineyards in 2013. Only 1,000 vineyards were planed there in 2012.
