Everyone needs the South Stream, experts sayThe controversy over the South Stream gas pipeline which is meant to diversify the supply of Russian natural gas to Europe is continuing.The Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Energy, Piotr Zavalny talked about the South Stream with Vestnik Kavkaza."The South Stream will be built sooner or later... because everyone needs it including European consumers and Russia."Zavalny noted that the production of gas in Europe is in decline and that by 2030 Europe will need to import about 80 billion cubic meters of gas more. According to Zavalny, the controversy on the issue is due to American geo political interests which hinder the development of the South Stream project.Last week the foreign ministers of Serbia and Hungary urged European leaders to facilitate the development of the South Stream project.

Zavalny noted that the production of gas in Europe is in decline and that by 2030 Europe will need to import about 80 billion cubic meters of gas more than it does at present.
