Russia to write off Uzbek debt of $865 million

Russian Minister for Finances Anton Siluanov said that Russia and Uzbekistan will sign an intergovernmental agreement after talks in Tashkent on Wednesday to write off Uzbekistan's $865 million debt to Russia. Russian and Uzbek Presidents Vladimir Putin and Islam Karimov are currently holding negotiations in Tashkent, RIA Novosti reports.

$500 million of the sum is the debt itself, the rest is the accumulated interest. Uzbekistan is writing off a debt of $25 million for Russia. The Russian government approved the initiative last week.
