Poland to reduce purchase of Russian gas

Polish energy company PGNiG is negotiating reduction of gas purchases from Gazprom. The company sent a request for reconsideration of prices to Gazprom on November 5, 2014, within the framework of the Yamal Agreement signed on September 25, 1996. The document allows Poland to start arbitrary processes if the sides fail to reach a consensus within 6 months, TASS reports.

According to the Yamal Agreement, Poland will buy 10.2 billion cubic meters of Russian gas a year until 2022. The reconsideration of prices was provoked by changes on the European energy market in the last years.
