Rosselkhoznadzor allows meat imports from Kazakhstan

Rosselkhoznadzor lifted restrictions on imports of meat from the Russian regions of Kazakhstan, where previously an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease was recorded.

A few years ago a buffer zone was established due to cases of foot-and-mouth disease of cattle in Almaty, Kyzylorda, and the South Kazakhstan and East Kazakhstan regions. Exports of meat and transport of animals from these regions of Kazakhstan to Russia were banned. On 19 December the committee of veterinary control and supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan received the opinion of Rosselkhoznadzor on the welfare of the republic for FMD.
In August 2014 Rosselkhoznadzor lifted restrictions on meat imports from the East Kazakhstan region to Russia. To date, Rosselkhoznadzor has lifted the ban on meat exports from all regions of Kazakhstan.

In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan submitted to the International Office of Epizootics two applications for official status of a zone free from FMD.

As of 19 December, Kazakhstan had exported 11.9 tons of meat and meat products in 2014.
