Russia refuses to build the South Stream gas pipeline, for today this topic is closed.
"Today, as you know, the question is closed, the Russian president clearly spoke about this. For too long we have been knocking on a closed door, and when we finally realized that they do not want to open the door to us, it was decided that this project would be completed in that form, because it was pointless to dig a multibillion-dollar investment into the sea without hope that it would pay off," Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Vasily Nebenzia told RIA Novosti.
According to him, after the decision of Moscow "suddenly voices appeared from the Brussels, from countries to oppose the project, it turns out that these countries and Brussels did not object to the construction of South Stream, subject to compliance with the Third Energy Package."
Note that Russian President Vladimir Putin in the course of negotiations in Turkey on December 1 said that Russia in the present circumstances cannot continue the South Stream project, including the unconstructive position of the European Union. At the same time, the Russian Federation will build a new gas pipeline system to meet the needs of Turkey.
