Iran plans to continue licensing AN airplanes

The Iranian aviation construction corporation HESA plans to build 30
new An-140 planes (the Iranian version is called IrAn-140) by 2015, a
spokesman for the company's office in Ukraine said today, NEWS.AM
reports, citing Korrespondent.net.

Iran started assemblage of An-140 copies in 2001. The number of planes
built ranges from 10 to 14, they are all used within Iran. An IrAn-140
is worth $15 million.

It was reported earlier that Iran had developed its own passenger
plane with 150 seats. At the same time Iran was negotiating with
Ukraine about An-158 with 99 passenger seats. An-140 can transport 52
passengers.

Iran is forced to develop its own aviation factories due to sanctions.
The sanctions forbid the export of civilian aircraft and aircraft
components to Iran.
