Georgian finance minister says lari unlikely to "jump"

Georgian minister of finance Nodar Khaduri said that changes to the exchange rate of the lari against the US dollar should not be abrupt.

"Last year, the National Bank of Georgia and the Ministry of Finance of the Republic did not increase the amount of outstanding money supply so that it would not cause fluctuations in the exchange rate of the GEL," he pointed out, Interfax reports. Khaduri declared that Georgia is barely protected from external influences.

"There are many factors influencing the exchange rate - both internal and external factors. It could be the current situation in neighboring countries or relations between the euro and the dollar and so on," the minister said, adding that this year the budget deficit of Georgia will be reduced to 3% and "everything will be done for 2015 to be more successful for the Georgian economy than 2014."
