Number of migrants in Russia has declined by 70%

The increasing complexity of the economic situation in Russia and the tightening of migration policies have led to a reduction in the number of migrant workers in the country of 70%.

This statement was made today by the the head of the Federal Migration Service, Konstantin Romodanovsky. "The number of migrants in the country has declined, one factor is the economy, and another is violating the standards of stay in Russia. Migrants have seen the real punishment they may face for violating the standards of staying in our country. For the first nine days of January the number of labour migrants in Russia declined by 70%," TASS quoted him as saying.

According to the head of the Federal Migration Service, at the same time Russia's need for migrant workers is still high, so the authorities are considering the introduction of an "amnesty" for migrant workers. "We have an amnesty in mind, but have made no practical moves yet," Romodanovsky said.
