In Russia, students may be sent to potato fields as part of the program of import substitution. The proposal was made by the head of Rosmolodezh, Sergey Pospelov.
"At the moment the question of import substitution has risen to state level, and its decision will stand for increasing agricultural production. Thus, seasonal work will get a boost. And taking into account the fact that the rural population is not always great, just attracting students could be a factor that would help solve the problem," Interfax quoted him as saying.
In this case, Pospelov said that agricultural work will not be mandatory and will not be a punishment for poor academic performance. Perhaps this work will be paid for by the state.
