Berdimuhamedov and Ahmadzai want to accelerate TAPI construction

Ashgabat and Kabul will accelerate the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline in order to start it this year.

The agreement was reached during the ongoing two-day state visit of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai to Ashgabat. The main topics of the talks were implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline construction project to Afghanistan from Turkmenistan.

According to the President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, "TAPI allows Afghanistan to earn nearly a billion dollars and create about 12 thousand jobs."

"Afghanistan is looking forward to successful implementation of TAPI gas pipeline," Ahmadzai said.

The implementation of this major regional project will help to eradicate poverty in Afghanistan and create a strong economic relationship with the countries of Central Asia," TASS cited him.
