Armenian traders resume protests

About 3000 small and medium-scale businessmen have blocked Bagramyan Avenue in Armenia today, paralyzing traffic. The protests of September-October 2014 have started again in light of the law on a turnover tax that the country will adopt on February 1, 2015, Epress.am reports.

Businessmen say that they cannot take stock of all their goods because major distributors do not present facture invoices. Moreover, the stock would exceed the minimum limit of 58.3 million drams, forcing them to pay VAT and making overall business impossible. They demand that the government set a higher limit or repeal the law.

Some experts say that the law would kill small and medium-scale business in the country.

The protesters have given the government until January 30 to cancel the law. They threaten to stop business and paying taxes if the law comes into force. Businessmen will continue protests near the president’s office.
