Kazakhstan promises to comply with highest eco-standards in Caspian shelf work.

Kazakhstan will work on the Caspian Sea shelf in accordance with the
highest environmental standards, Karim Masimov, the Kazakh Prime
Minister, said on Tuesday at the Fifth Eurasian Forum KazEnergy, RIA
Novosti
reports.

Masimov called for lessons to be learnt from the incident in the Gulf
of Mexico and recalled that the Ministry of Oil, Gas and Environmental
Protection of Kazakhstan had formed a working group to provide all the
necessary security measures during the offshore drilling, as well as
for work in the coastal zone.


The BP Deepwater Horizon platform sank in the Gulf of Mexico off the
coast of Louisiana on the 22nd of April, after a 36-hour fire
following an explosion that took the lives of 11 people. This incident
resulted in an oil spill of 4.9 million barrels. It was only stopped
on the 19th of September. The incident in the Gulf of Mexico was the
largest accidental oil spill in US history.
