Azerbaijan decides to revise consumer basket after market monitoring

Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population is monitoring markets to study the need to revise the consumer basket due to the change in the Azerbaijani manat’s rate, the minister of labour and social protection of population, Salim Muslimov, said today.

He stressed that government revenue increases with the decrease in the national currency’s rate. “What kind of difficulties can there be, if the revenues of the state budget grow? All the social payments will, of course, be made in a timely manner, and there will be no delays,” he said.

“We are working on it. The relevant structures of the ministry have been monitoring the situation since February 23. Unfortunately, in all countries where there is a weakening of the national currency, speculation in the markets is becoming a common thing. In such cases, the antimonopoly structures should strengthen the administrative measures. In our case, the economy ministry deals with this, and, according to the available information, it conducts enhanced work in this direction,” Trend cited Muslimov as saying.

According to Muslimov, the ministry will send the results of the monitoring to the government, and then appropriate action will be taken.
