Turkmenistan and Iran discuss transport cooperation

Bilateral relations, including in the transport sector, were discussed during a meeting of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Ahmad Akhoundi in Ashgabat.

The Turkmen government said that Akhoundi stressed that Iran attaches great importance to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s forthcoming visit to Turkmenistan and the summit talks in Ashgabat, where a wide range of issues of bilateral relations will be put on the agenda.

It was also noted that transport was one of the important areas of partnership. Turkmenistan has made a number of important initiatives to build a regional and international transport-communication infrastructure.

"The North-South transnational railway line is an eloquent example of successful joint efforts. In this regard, the Iranian side’s proposals on cooperation in this priority area were also voiced," Trend cited the statement.
