Minister of Communications says cheap oil will not affect the economy of Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan has demonstrated that falling oil prices will not affect its economic policy, the Minister of Communications and High Technologies, Ali Abbasov, said today during the Azerbaijan investment summit.

The Minister said that the situation in the oil market contributes to pessimism among investors. "The crisis in some oil-producing countries has shown that it is necessary to reduce dependence on oil like Azerbaijan," APA cited him as saying.

Abbasov said that the ICT sector in the country is developing very rapidly.

According to the minister, the export of IT-production in 2012 amounted to $41 million.

"The Azerbaijani market is small, which is a deterrent factor for the arrival of foreign companies on the market. The Ministry of Communications and High Technologies is working on this," Ali Abbasov concluded.
