Nazarbayev: EAEC tested by oil prices

The Eurasian Economic Union has to face a stern test in the form of lower oil prices, the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev said during a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

"Unfortunately, our union is now going through a great test as export prices have fallen in both Russia and Kazakhstan," RIA Novosti cited him as saying.

Vladimir Putin, in his turn, is confident that Russia and Kazakhstan working together would manage to overcome current economic difficulties.

"We face a really difficult situation in the global economy, taking into account the situation on the markets," the head of the Russian state said.

"But I am convinced that the framework conditions for the functioning of the economy and social sphere, created also through your direct involvement in Kazakhstan and the whole post-Soviet space, will certainly help us to overcome these difficulties. Of course, if we work together - the way we have worked in previous years - it will be easier for us to cope with the situation we face today," Putin said.

The Russian President added that he intends to discuss bilateral relations and international issues with Nazarbayev.
