Iraq may join the international gas consortium Nabucco earlier than Turkmenistan, the special US representative for energy affairs in Eurasia, Richard Morningstar, said.
Morningstar clarified that the US companies are not participating in Nabucco, but may provide equipment. The main question is who, besides Azerbaijan, will provide gas.
He named Turkmenistan and Iraq as possible solutions. Turkmenistan is not likely to join the project in the near future for political reasons. Baghdad has expressed interest in the project, Morningstar noted, ITAR-TASS reports.
