The Colchis valley will be drained by 2012, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said at a meeting with agronomists in Kakheti. According to him, the valley has a large amount of land that could be used for the cultivation of export crops, Georgian media reports.
”The Communists once drained the valley, but 15-20% of the territory has turned into swamp. This time we will drain the area with the use of modern technology," said the president. He also stressed that Georgia must not leave the land uncultivated.
