Tofas workers to support strike at Renault's Turkish branch

The strike of workers of the joint venture in Turkey of the French Renault car factory has been supported by the Tofas workers. They are dissatisfied with their working conditions, particularly the level of wages, Reuters reports.

The strike in the city of Bursa at a joint venture of the French company Renault and the Turkish military pension fund Oyak began on May 14. It involves about 2500 workers. On the eve of May 15, the workers stopped the assembly line of Tofas, a joint venture of the Italian Fiat and Turkish Koc Holding, Lenta.ru reports.

Oyak Renault last year produced about 318 thousand cars. During one shift at the plant about 400 cars are assembled.

Tofas produces Fiat cars — Linea and Doblo vans, as well as other models for Peugeot, Citroen, Opel and Vauxhall. The plant in 2013 produced 240 thousand cars.
