Uzbek President Islam Karimov has proposed the opening of a Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman-Qatar transport corridor, RIA Novosti reports.
Islam Karimov is on a two-day visit to Turkmenistan. He proposed the corridor to his Turmen counterpart, Gurbanguly Berdimukhamedov. The president of Turkmenistan replied that he approves the project and will order the Turkmen foreign policy and transport agencies to study the political and technical aspects of the project.
Turkmenistan is currently participating in the North-South corridor, a Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railroad. In the future the railroad will have access to the Persian Gulf.
