OJSC Russian Railways and CJSC Azerbaijan Railways have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding in Minsk within the framework of the 62nd meeting of the CIS Rail Transport Council, Russian Railways said.
“The document was signed by Russian Railways’ president Vladimir Yakunin and CJSC Azerbaijan Railways’ director general Javid Gurbanov," abc.az cited the message as saying.
The document aims to intensify the use of the two states’ rail transit potential on increase of traffic via the Iran-Azerbaijan-Russia-Europe route within the framework of the international transport corridor North-South, the international cross-border Samur (Russia) - Yalama (Azerbaijan) and approaches to it, the introduction of e-document workflow, the fulfillment of financial obligations and creation of a competitive level of tariffs for transportation of passengers and goods, the effective use of freight wagons, etc.
A special working group will be set up to realize the Memorandum's provisions.
