The Meghri-Kajaran section of the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline will be sold to the Russian Gazprom Armenia company, Armenian deputy minister of energy and natural resources, Ara Simonyan, said.
“Why has this not been done before? Because an Iranian loan was attracted at the time for the construction. The Iranian side could extend a loan only to a 100% state-owned company and that is why the High Voltage Electric Networks of Armenia was involved. Now the construction is over and the loan is repaid,” ARKA cited Simonyan as saying.
Gazprom Armenia rents this 40-kilometer section from the government-owned High Voltage Electric Networks company.
