President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has discussed cooperation in
transport with Afghan official Abdulkuddus Hamidi in Dushanbe, Iran.ru
reports, citing Rahmon's press-service.
The Iran-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railroad will be connected with the
railways of Kyrgyzstan and China. The project is supported within the
Organization of Economic Cooperation. Iran provides $1 million for
development of the technical-economic basis of the construction. The
Asian Bank of Development provided over $1.25 million for
technical-economic basis.
The total length of the railroad will reach 2,000km and will require
approximately $3.2 billion.
Rahmon emphasized that the countries do not need foreign investments.
He said that Tajikistan developed three investment projects for
construction of Dushanbe-Kurgan-Tube, Rumi-Lower Pyandzh and
Vahdat-Karamik railroads.
The Tajik president expressed hope that realization of the program
will be supported by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO),
Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and other international finance
structures.
