Iran's largest lake, Umria, located in the provinces of Eastern and
Western Azerbaijan, has dried out by almost a third, the head of the
Iranian State Management for Lake Protection Ali Nazardust said, Trend
reports.
Construction of embankments, reduction of rains and other negative
factors are leading to the drying out of Lake Umria, Nazardust said in
an interview with Alef.ir.
The salt level in the lake is 330%. The indicator was 160-170%
earlier. The size of the lake dropped by a third. It previously
covered 5,000 square kilometers.
