Iran's Enzeli port to increase capacity to 11 million tons

The Governor of Iran's Gilyan Province, Ruholla Kakhremani Chabok,
said in an interview with ISNA that the  Enzeli port has achieved
international importance and has become a gateway to Caspian countries
and Europe, Iran.ru reports.


The port continues the realization of the development program to
achieve a capacity of 20 tons of cargo annually. It will keep the
status of the largest port in the Caspian Sea.


Last year its capacity increased from 5 to 7 million tons. In the next
two years the indicator will be increased to 11 million tons.


Chabok said that the port"s capacity will increase via construction of
Kazvin-Resht-Astara railroad, modernization of the international
airport in Resht, improvement of Resht-Kazvin and Resht-Enzeli roads.


The governor emphasized that the province needs to use its potential
to improve the port. Other ports, such as Chamkhale, Kiyashehr and
Astara need improvement. Development of the ports, the free economic
zone "Aras" in the province of Eastern Azerbaijan, port Enzeli in
Gilyan Province will provide high economic potential in the north of
the country, starting from Khurasan and ending with Iranian
Azerbaijan.
