Atomenergoproject will be the main project participant of the
construction of a new Armenian nuclear power plant, RIA Novosti cites
the company"s press-service as saying.
Armenia plans to build a new 1-gigawatt block. Armenian Ministry of
Energy said that the project is worth $5 billion. Armenian government
cancelled the state monopoly for ownership of new nuclear power blocks
since 2006.
Atomenergoproject has experience in foreign projects: it is the main
company working with the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran, the
Kudam-Kulam nuclear power plant in India, and the Belene nuclear power
plant in Bulgaria.
Russia and Armenia signed an inter-governmental agreement on August 20
to cooperate in construction of the energy block. The document was
signed after the negotiations between Russian President Dmitry
Medvedev and Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan in Armenia.
The head of Rosatom, Sergey Kiriyenko, said before the signing that
Russia may finance over 20% of the nuclear power plant construction in
Armenia.
He said that they established a joint Russian-Armenian company which
will cover at least 40%
