All Olympic facilities in Sochi will be ready by 2012. This would
allow two full sports seasons to be carried out in the complex built
on the territory before the Games begin, RIA Novosti reports.
The committee on “Sochi-2014” intends to hold 74 competitions, 29 of
which will be international in 2012-2013.
The list of the competitions include five world championships. The
number of athletes to participate in the tournament will exceed 5000.
The pre-Games competitions will help to assess the quality and
infrastructure of Sochi.
The first international competitions will already be held in Sochi in
February 2011. The city will host the European Cup in alpine skiing.
In preparation for the 2014 Olympics, 13 sport facilities, 4 ski
resorts with a total length of ski runs over 150 kilometers, 8
kilometers of cable cars and more than 100 hotels with more than
27,000 rooms will be built and renovated in Sochi.
