Georgian Ministry of Agriculture promises to reduce meat prices

Georgian Minister of Agriculture Bakur Kvezereli promised at a new
briefing in Tbilisi to reduce prices for beef to the price level of
October 18, News Georgia reports.

The minister explained that the current prices were pushed up
artificially by speculators. He said that they will find and punish
the people responsible.

New regulations for beef makers, obliging them to purchase meat from
butchers rather than farmers, resulted in dramatic rise of prices. The
beef price reached over 10 lari per kilo. Kvezereli also said that all
shops need to have certificates proving that the cattle was healthy,
otherwise they will have to pay penalties.
$1 - 1.77 lari.
