Georgia is negotiating with the South-Caucasian Railways (SCR) to have
4 diesel locomotives repaired at the locomotive depot of Yerevan, the
chairman of the fuel and energy commission of SCR, Romik Stepanyan,
said on November 10. He noted that the depot has been repaired
recently and is considered to have the best equipment among similar
facilities in the region, news.am reports.
Stepanyan expressed confidence that soon Iran and other neighbor
countries will place such orders. He added that the locomotive depot
in Gumri is also being equipped.
According to Stepanyan, the SCR invested 1 billion rubles. He noted
that the number of accidents and incidents on the railroad has dropped
to an average of 133 this year, compared with approximately 450 in
2009.
