All deposits in Georgia will be converted into national currency

Georgian government is planning to “larilize” and develop the lari money market in the nearest one and a half year. It was decided on a conference in “Courtyard-Marriot” hotel in Tbilisi, the theme of the conference was “Steady growth of credit financing in the countries of Caucasus, Central Asia and bordering coutries of EU”, citing President of Georgian National Bank Georgy Kadagydze.


According to Kadagydze, “larilizing” will help restore the credit activities and improve availability of credits. All commercial bank deposits will be denominated into Georgia’s national currency – lari.


Representatives from Georgia’s National Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, International Monetary Fund, and ministries of finances and central banks from 12 countries were also present.
