Protests at Armenian president’s residence

Approximately 200 employees of the Nairit company have gathered at the
residence of Armenian president with protests. They demand wage debts
be paid off. The company’s head, Vaan Melkonyan, arrived at the scene.
According to Panorama.am, Melkonyan and 5 employees were invited to
the residence.

Melkonyan said that the factory owes wages for over three months. The
reason is financial problems due to last year’s economic recession.

He also mentioned that 99% of the products are exported, which has a
negative effect on the Armenian economy. The problem is expensive
utility services, which provide poor competitiveness for the factory.

Melkonyan said that the chemical industry needs support in
development. It is an energy-consuming sphere with 40% efficiency.

He denied that the owner of Nairit is Armenian Premier Tigran
Sarkisyan. The company has a website, Nairit.am, where the owner’s
name can be found.
