US firms may take part in power unit construction at Armenian nuclear power plant

The US is interested in American companies participating in the construction of a new unit of an Armenian nuclear power plant, Dan Rosenblum,  Coordinator of US Assistance to Europe and Eurasia, said at a press conference in Yerevan, ARKA reports.
Armenia plans to build a new nuclear power unit with a capacity of up to 1GW. According to the Ministry of Energy of Armenia, the project is set to cost about $5 billion.
In order to attract foreign capital for the project, in 2006 the Armenian parliament abolished the state monopoly on ownership of the new nuclear power unit. Construction work is scheduled to begin in 2011.
