The closure of the Armenian nuclear power plant may cost about 350-400 million dollars, the Chairman of the State Committee for Nuclear Safety of Armenia Ashot Martirosyann said today, Novosti-Armenia reports.
According to experts, the Armenian plant can operate at least until 2016. International standards require that a conservation program for nuclear power plants should be ready five years before the planned closure.
However, Martyrosyan stressed that together with the closure option, the government is considering extending its life for another 10 years, in the event that a new energy unit is not completed in time.
