New port to be constructed in Poti

The Poti Port has started viewing a project for a new port. There were
meetings with the locals of the Nabad area and the non-governmental
sector. The meetings were initiated by a company of science research
'Gamma', which will prepare a reports on the influence of the new port
on the environment and its social effects, Business Georgia reports.


Next year the final decision on the construction of the port will be made.
100% of the port's shares belong to the investment agency RAKIA. The
company has already fulfilled part of its investment obligations and
continues work on the investment projects. In particular, it is
realizing the construction of the container terminal of the new port,
the rehabilitation of the current breakwater and construction of a new
one.


In 2011, a group of consulting engineers invited by the port will
start designing part of the terminal. The group will monitor
construction of the container terminal, which will be completed in
2014. The terminal requires a road and railroad lines. 'Gamma',
together with its international association 'Environ' will prepare a
final statement for construction of the terminal, its influence on the
environment and social effects.
