Today President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has discussed topical issues of international and regional politics, with President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, reports Trend citing the press service of the Turkmen government.
They also discussed the prospects of interstate cooperation. The two neighboring states implement a railway construction project with the participation of Kazakhstan. The railway is to become the shortest path from the countries of Central Asia to the Persian Gulf. Iran imports Turkmen gas, the volume of which has increased in the recent years. Electricity produced in Turkmenistan is conveyed through Iran to Turkey.
On April 17 in Tehran will be held intergovernmental negotiations between Turkmenistan and Iran. The Turkmen delegation will be headed by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet Council Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov.
The delegation will participate in the tenth conference of the joint Commission for Economic Cooperation between the two neighboring states, as well as in the international conference "Freedom from weapons and non-proliferation of weapons: global security without weapons of mass destruction."
