The Nubarash poison chemical dump in Armenia is a threat to people and
the environment, and the danger grows in spring because the dump is
located in a landslide zone, News Armenia reports.
Experts from the World Bank studied the territory and confirmed the threat.
Specialists say that the dump is not sealed. There are masses of earth
mixed with chemicals on the surface.
The dump covers 52.3 hectares. An average of 200 tons of garbage from
Yerevan are dumped in the area. Over 7.5 million tons of hard garbage
has been dumped in the last 50 years. 300 tons of organic chlorine
substances need to be processed, according to the Stockholm
convention.
