Georgia has concluded the first stage of purchasing the components of the project for modernizing the railroads, called ‘Fast railroad from Batumi to Tbilisi in 3 hours’, Business Georgia reports.
The two-stage tender started on September 17, with participation of 13 companies. The first stage involved invitation of information and first tender proposals. 13 companies showed interest, including China Railway 23rd Bureau Group Co. Ltd., KEC INTERNATIONAL LIMITED INDIA, Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd, Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd , Yapi Merkezi Insaat ve Sanayi A.S. , SALCEF Construzioni Edili E Ferroviarie SPA, Assignia Infraestructuras S.A. , CORSAN CORVIAM CONSTRUCCION, S.A., Georgia’s Azerinshaatservice, Railway No.5 Engineering Group Co. Ltd. , OHL International Construction , Sinohydro Corporation Limited и ZTE Corporation. The second stage involved technical proposals and determination of expenses.
The Georgian Railways company said that the winning company will have 70% of staff from Georgian population. The works are expected to cost 250 million Swiss francs.
The project and construction works will be concluded on July 1, 2013. A French-Georgian consortium is carrying out preparation of the first construction project and technical-economic properties.
