Russia and Ukraine agree on gas supplies to Europe

Ukraine and Russia agreed on an annual transit of 112 billion cubic
meters of Russian gas to Europe through Ukraine for 5 years, Ukrainian
Minister of Fuel and Energy Yuri Boiko told a council on plans for
modernizing the cross-country gas pipeline for 2011 at the compression
station ‘Romnenskaya’. He said that the document was signed this week
during a settlement of debts between Naftogaz of Ukraine, RosUkrEnergo
and Gazprom, ITAR-TASS reports.

The agreement involves paying advance money to Ukraine equivalent to
$1.5 billion for transit. If the transit quantities drop, the terms of
payments of the advance money will be prolonged.

The minister said that they will work until 2028 and want further
prospects for gas transport systems.
