Iran to create transit route to Afghanistan and CIS Central Asian countries

The head of the Iranian company for the construction and development
of transport infrastructure, Masood Rahnema, announced that the
construction of the 590-km-long Chabahar Zahedan railway will start on
Monday, December 6, Iran News reports, citing the news agency IRNA.

The project is aimed at creating a transit route through Iran to
Afghanistan and Central Asian CIS countries and improving the
socio-economic security in Eastern Iran.

According to Masuda Rahnema, the construction of the Chabahar Zahedan
railway will take three and a half years. The construction cost of one
km of railways is about $ 3 million.
