Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan has participated in the ceremonial
opening of a new power station in Yerevan, ARKA reports. The power
station is equipped with a combined cyclesteam power unit.
Armen Movsisyan, the minister of ecology and natural resources of
Armenia, said that the new power station is unique in the country in
terms of its technical, ecological, use of energy social aspects.
He underlined that the new heat station will use 2-2.3 times less gas
than other stations in Armania. Due to this, electricity prices
in Armenia will not be raised, although the price of imported gas has risen.
He said that special attention had been paid to the ecological aspect.
Emissions into the atmosphere will be significantly reduced. Also, the
energy produced by the station will be consumed by the Armenian
population first, and only what is left over will be exported abroad.
The overall combined power of the station is 271.1 megawatts, with an
energy power of 242 megawatts and heating power of 437 gigajoules per
hour.
A credit of $247mln for the construction of the station was given by
the Japanese Bank for International Collaboration (JBIC) over 30
years.
