Rostov region pigs to be slaughtered over swine fever

All the pigs will be slaughtered in the Rostov region by the end of
the week. The measure will be taken over the African swine fever
detected in the area on Monday, RIA-Novosti reports.

This is the second outbreak in three months.

The African swine fever (Montgomery disease) was recorded in 1903 in
South Africa for the first time. Under natural conditions, domestic
and wild pigs are susceptible to the virus. Infection occurs through
contact with sick animals. Humans are not affected by the virus.
