Afghanistan to provide security for the TAPI pipeline

The Afghanistan authorities are placing more faith in construction of the "Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India" (TAPI) gas pipeline and are ready to provide security for it, even though financial and technical peculiarities haven't yet been developed, Trend reports.

On the 11th of December in Ashkhabad the summit of the participant-states in TAPI was held. As the result of the summit, the heads of three countries and the foreign minister of India signed a framwork treaty on fulfillment of the project.

However, the treaty doesn't touch on some important points, for example, clear limits for the project's realization, transit rates or financing conditions.

The security of the construction will be provided by 5-7 thousand people and more than 10,000 will build the pipeline. The participants are primarily worried about the part of the pipeline which will be constructed on the territory of Afghanistan which is under control of the "Taliban".

Russia and the USA are going to support the project.
