A major fire broke out last night on the territory of SOCAR (the State
Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic) in the village of Garachukhur
in the Surakhan District of Baku, ANS reports.
Witnesses say that the fire was preceded by several explosions. It
covers 1,200 square meters and spread to nearby houses.
Fire-fighters from nearby districts aided in putting the fire out.
They prevented it from spreading.
No one was injured.
The fire spread on a surface of artificial water storage where
technical water, used for oil extraction, was discharged. It was
covered in a thick layer of oil, which caught fire.
The causes of the fire are being investigated.
