Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and the Catholicos Patriarch of
All-Georgia Ilia II have opened the renovated opera house of
Balanchivadze, where the modern music hall is located, in Kutaisi
(Imereti District, Western Georgia), News Georgia cites Georgian TV
channels as saying.
The president said that 2011 will be the Year of Kutaisi. A new
parliament, government buildings and enterprises will open next year,
he said.
Saakashvili said that Kutaisi has a lot of history, cultural and
education centers.
The concert dedicated to the opening of the new building had
performances of Ilya II's works.
The opera building and the music hall required approximately $2.87
million for renovation. The building's infrastructure, interior, stage
and front were fully renovated.
