Police to investigate corruption at Istanbul customs office

The prosecutor's office of Istanbul is carrying out the largest
investigation at the city’s customs office in recent years. The case
started with the arrest of 45 employees of the customs office, Turkish
media cite a court source on Tuesday.


The staff were arrested at the end of last week after half a year of
surveillance, RIA Novosti cites the Milliyet paper as saying.


The paper notes that the case started from the DHL, one of the world
leaders of express shipment. Six members of the company’s office in
Turkey were violating the customs law on various occasions.


The investigation has information on reception of bribes for import
without paying customs fees, especially when it comes to imports of
electronics.


The State Minister Mustafa Sait Yazıcıoğlu, supervisor of the customs
structures told Sabakh paper that the case will continue regardless of
the suspects’ ranks.
