The declaration on the Southern Energy Corridor signed by the EU and
Azerbaijan stirred up experts. Economist Mikhail Delyagin believes
that "realization of the energy corridor is , first of all, related to
the Nabucco gas pipeline project. No one cares about its commercial
efficiency because no one is interested in the commercial efficiency
of the Baku-Jeykhan oil pipeline".
Delyagin says that Nabucco is a strategic project cutting off Central
Asia and Russia. "Any step towards realization of Nabucco is dangerous
for Russia", he said.
The expert said that the President of the European Commission, Jose
Manuel Barroso, will have the same goals to fulfill in Turkmenistan.
The European deal with Iran is a possibility, especially taking into
account Russia's refusal to provide S-300s to Iran last year, Delyagin
said.
