Georgia to import grain from Lithuania.

The government of Lithuania has decided to export grain to Georgia,
reports Business Georgia. According to the prime minister of Georgia,
Nika Gilaury, the export of grain from Lithuania and Ukraine will
totally cover the needs of the country. Negotiations with the USA are
also being held, however.
The ambassador of Georgia in Ukraine, Grigol Katamadze, stated that an
agreement with Ukraine has been reached and by the end of the year
150,000 tons of grain will be imported.
Annually, Georgia needs 800,000 tons of grain. 15% of this the country
produces, but the other 85%was imported from Russia and Kazakhstan.
However, due to the recent halt of the Russian export of grain due to
wildfires the main exporters to Georgia are now Kazakhstan, the USA,
and Ukraine.
The head of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia also stated that
they plan to improve the production of grain in the country and by
2013 to produce 45% of the country's requirements.
