UN resolution on Iran will not stop the US from unilateral sanctions

The United States cannot promise third countries that they will not
impose unilateral sanctions against Iran, even if the UN passes a
resolution on sanctions against the Islamic Republic over its nuclear
program, US ambassador to the UN Susan Rice said on Thursday.

Rise was commenting on the declaration made by Russian Foreign
Minister Sergey Lavrov on the inadmissibility of unilateral sanctions
that bypass the Security Council, RIA Novosti reports.

Lavrov said on Wednesday that while discussing the new Security
Council resolution on Iran, Russia faces the problem that the US does
not consider international law to have precedence over its national
legislature.

Rice said that Washington respects the value of multilateral
sanctions, which is the reason for its participation in the
resolution.
